What makes whiskey taste so good?
What makes whiskey taste so good? I would like to show you the 4 main chemicals that give whiskey its distinctive flavour
- Lactones add a woody character
- Aldehydes add some vanilla notes and sometimes almond aromas
- Esters – add the fruity flavours and aromas.
- Phenol – these compounds add the smoky flavours, most closely associated with Scottish whiskey – but some Irish whiskeys have some- most notably Connemara 12 year old.
