Dublin Whiskey Tours - Teeling Distillery

Teeling Whiskey To Invest €500,000 In Dublin Distillery

The only way is up for Teeling Whiskey. This week comes the news that it plans to invest €500,000 in a new extension for production facilities, tastings and events at its Dublin distillery.

Teeling has already welcomed 185,000 visitors to the visitor’s centre in Dublin’s inner city since opening two years ago. Speaking to the Irish Times this month, co-founder Jack Teeling said that the expansion would “keep up with the demand for our whiskey and visitors to our distillery”.

It’s expected the extension will be completed by this time next year. Before then, we’ll be seeing Teeling launch its first matured whiskey from the distillery.

Dublin Whiskey Tours - Finding Fake Irish Whiskey

New Research: How To Spot A Fake Whiskey

Good news – researchers from Germany and the Netherlands have discovered a way to spot counterfeit whiskey! Published in the journal Chem this week, the technique uses fluorescent polymer dyes as they react to different compounds in whiskeys.

When exposed to fluorescent lighting, the polymers glow! Not only that, but the intensity will be determined by aspects such as whether the Scotch is double or single malt, or whether the whiskey was distilled in Ireland or the US. After carrying out tests on 33 Irish, Scottish, and American whiskeys, the researchers found that each sample produced a distinctive combination of glowing polymers. Indeed, the method is perfect for checking a sample against a branded whiskey.

“Each single polymer’s response to the whiskey would not be very useful, but if you combine them, they form a really unique pattern,” says Uwe Bunz, co-author of the report.
