It’s been a busy few days for the Irish whiskey sector with Slane Whiskey, Diageo, The Irish Whiskey Association and Bushmill’s all releasing exciting news. With the industry having experienced exports rise by over €215 million over the past decade, it is just a taste of what’s to come for this exciting category of the alcoholic drinks sector. Slane-Irish-Whiskey

Brown Forman to launch Slane Irish Whiskey to UK market

US distillers Brown Forman unveiled plans to launch Slane Castle Irish Whiskey to the UK market this month. The move follows the brand’s launch of the triple casked blend in Dublin in May. Hospitality Ireland magazine highlighted how customers will be able to purchase the whiskey brand in a selection of bars in London, Leeds, Bath, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

 


Roe & Co Irish Whiskey

Diageo received approval for distillery at St James’s Gate – Dublin.

Drinks manufacturing giant Diageo have received approval for the construction of a new distillery at its St James’s Gate site in Dublin 8. The company will distill its premium brand Roe & Co there. With construction set to kick off in early 2019, the three-year maturing cycle means that it will be 2022 before the whiskey distilled at this new location will be available to purchase. Roe & Co has been available from a selection of European sites since the spring.

Bushmills Irish Whiskey is now set up at Dublin Airport’s T2

Bushmills Irish Whiskey has partnered with Aer Rianta International (ARI) at Dublin Airport’s second terminal T2 to create a new whiskey pop-up shop. The store aims to create a unique multi-sensory retail experience, which is designed to capture the craftsmanship involved in producing the whiskey. Charred wood, chalky brick and black slate – all found at the Old Bushmills Distillery – are on display at the temporary store.

 


Echlinville Whiskey Distillery

NI to Attract Over 200,000 Whiskey Tourists

Meanwhile, Northern Ireland can expect to attract over 200,000 whiskey tourists per year, according to Miriam Mooney, head of the Irish Whiskey Association. “Already, The Old Bushmills Distillery and Echlinville Distillery are succeeding in attracting more than 120,000 visitors every year,” she said at the launch of the association’s Regional Irish Whiskey Tourism Strategy. With Rademon Estate Distillery and The Quiet Man Distillery planning to open visitor centres, this figure is expected to rise rapidly. “Local distilleries will play an integral role in making Ireland the world’s number one whiskey tourism destination,” she said.
