Demand for our great Irish brands has risen by 11.2% in the past year, Checkout Magazine reports. Irish whiskey is the fastest growing drink in the spirits sector with Ireland, the US, France, the UK, and South Africa all leading in sales for this category.

Incredibly, it’s estimated that €1.3 billion will be spent by roughly 1.9 million people at Irish distilleries by the year 2025. He follows in the footsteps of Lord Henry Mountcharles and his son Alex, of Slane Castle in Co Meath, who sold their drinks business to the American drinks giant Brown-Forman.

GI Protection Sought For Irish Whiskey

This legally defines spirits and controls labels and GIs for them.

“Our primary concern has been to ensure the ongoing protection of the three all-Ireland GIs for Irish whiskey, Irish cream liqueurs and Irish poitín,” said Lavelle.

When a product is legally protected by GIs, it must be produced on the island of Ireland in accordance with approved production procedures.
